Walkie communication on a film set is the secret language that keeps the production running smoothly behind the scenes. In addition to getting hands-on experience using a walkie talkie, participants will learn about the dedicated channel that each department uses, how to keep messages clear, learn the use of industry-specific lingo, etiquette and timing, testing equipment, and coordinating with other crew members.

Getting a job in the film industry is the first step. Understanding the industry’s unique employment paperwork is the next one. This course will walk you through how to complete the federal, state, and industry specific paperwork needed for employment in the film industry.

Building on Intro to Cinematography I, Intro to Cinematography II will explore in more detail various lighting set-ups, format choices, lens selection, and examples from film history of different techniques employed by famous cinematographers, past and present. Location Scouting and Management (or How to Be the Secret Superhero No One Will Ever Know). Filming for a movie or TV show takes a lot of planning, and a lot of that goes unnoticed. This course teaches you how to be that master planner. Learn about city permitting, utility regulations, interdepartmental regulations, and everything that goes into organizing a film project.

This class applies for any management job on set, whether it’s in utilities, directing, producing or location scouting. You’ll learn the ins and outs of starting and managing film projects.

NOTE: Students will need a tablet or laptop with spreadsheet capabilities.

This course meets from 5-9 PM on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday beginning October 14 - November 4. There will not be class on October 31.
